Is this a good plan?

Hi, sorry that I’m jumping straight in with my first post! Not sure if this has been covered before, but here goes -

It sounds like energy prices are going up from next month so I have a cunning plan, let me know if I’m on to something or completely lost the plot!!

I’ve been a bit lazy with my readings, I last submitted them on 11 November. My latest bill estimates are quite a bit over what I’ve actually used - Electricity 5924 (est.) compared with 5419 (actual) & Gas 45974 (est.) compared with 45538. I appreciate these are only meter numbers that only provide an indication.

The way I see it is that I’ve bought energy in advance of the price hike. BTW, this was not deliberate, just a case of me not bothering with submitting readings. If I submit a reading now or, let’s say, on 1st April, will I benefit from the ‘energy credit’ I have accrued because of the estimated readings? I hope this makes sense.

Thank you and hello everyone :)

Your supplier will reapportion the over -read units -  so you will not have gained.
The bill may well be messy with lots of cancelled and reissued bills.

Now get into the habit of reading your meters every month.
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

No you won't. Putting a meter reading in now will correct it at the point when the rates are lower. If your actual reading was lower than their estimate, you would benefit by submitting a correct reading, but not when they are over estimating your usage.
