Apprenticeships and wrong qualification

My son is 18 and has wanted to go into railway engineering since he was a child, he has a very keen interest in railways in general. He applied for network rail, did really well in the first section but got turned down as he did a city and guilds level 3 in engineering, which we have now found out disqualifies him for any…

Hard to comment without better clarity.

It could be that the level 3 apprenticeship has duplicate modules to the level 3 city and guilds he did at college.

Speak to a recruiter at network rail. Understand WHY his studies are incompatible with their apprenticeship scheme at level 3 and if he can apply at other levels. He may need to do more at college level 3 to have the equivalence for higher level apprenticeships.

Don’t lie on the form, as frustrating as it is. The employer will find out.
