I bought a Hoover vacuum cleaner on 24th Feb from my local store. I used it a couple of times at home. The second time I used it it made a bang sound and a little bit of smoke came out. I stopped the hoover and turned it over to see if something was jammed. Nothing was obvious so I put the vacuum back on. The motor started up but the brushes underneath wouldn't turn. I powered off again and turn it over to see if there was anything jammed in the brushes area. It was clear of any debris. I put the vacuum on again and was faced with the same issue. I then emptied the bag and cleared as much dust off of it as I could. I boxed it back up and took it back to the store faulty today (01 March 25). The assistant took the vacuum out of the box to inspect it after we had explained what had happened. She told me they could not take it back nor offer a refund as it had been used. She said it smelled of animals and there was excessive dust inside it.
I went onto Argos's website and called customer services, only to find out they deal with online orders only. I emailed the only address I could find and was told they only deal with Argos card issues at that address. I tried the online chat and that was only wanting to deal with an online order only. I went on to Twitter (X) as someone said they have online help there. I have as yet had no reply after several hours.
I don't know what to do next as I'm now stuck with a non working vacuum and no redress.

So have called another number I found online 0800 011 3462 I gave them my details and was told the next time I take the item back to the store. Ask the assistant to call there customer support and they will confirm the item can be returned.
Back to the store tomorrow and we will see what happensYellowlawn
