    Yes, corrective accounts should be filed within 6 moths of you discovering the original return was incorrect, but that is the only restriction. probate is a separate procedure and you don’t have to notify them of any amendments.

    Except that question 7.6 on the probate form asks for the gross and net values from the HMRC IHT  letter.   I just would have thought this should be accurate ie if I put the value from IHT letter on the probate form then notify HMRC of changes later on they would still be incorrect on the probate form as I will have done the probate before the changes.

    Yes, but if I say HMRC don't really care about this: they want the right amount of IHT paid, but they recognise that it's a bit of a black art to calculate it precisely BEFORE probate is granted, because some things can't happen until AFTER probate is granted - like the sale of a house. An income tax refund is unlikely to have a huge impact, so you might as well crack on.
