Hi all
so my home insurance quote with my current provider changed from £600 odd last year to around £1100 ("cost of building materials", blah blah). Hence I, as Martin quite rightly recommends, used the comparison site facility on the MSE website to see what was available. I had 5 claims in the last 5 years (although one claim was of zero value) so it obviously took a wee while to fill in each time. With one of the comparison sites one quote came through in the 600 region so I went with that and followed through and paid. It was only when I phoned them did it become clear that although the %NCD was showing up in the policy, the previous claims were not. No wonder the quote was so reasonable. So I had to phone back the original provider, haggle over some of the numbers to bring it down to 800, swallow my pride and pay (didn't have the time/energy to go back to square one). But of course I will only get refunded for the second policy when the new term starts so I will have a large credit card bill to settle. So a word of warning (if this is not already well known) to always check all details get transferred across.
