Alternatives to Skype Number (formerly Skype In)

We now know that Skype will be closed down in May. 

I live abroad and have a UK Skype number that my elderly parents (and others in the UK such as their doctor) can call me on easily. WhatsApp etc. are not options for my parents. It needs to be a UK phone number. Are there any alternatives?
I came across bOnline yesterday. Is that the same thing? Is there anything better/cheaper?

There are hundreds of Voip providers, we've used VoipFone for years.

Assuming you just want to receive calls, rather than make them via the system, it would be a one off fee to transfer the number and then £3/month. If you wanted to make calls too then its either PAYG or you can buy monthly allowances

Thanks for this. I looked into it but it’s not clear to me that calls will be routed to my mobile (via an app). It seems to me that they will be routed to what is effectively a landline phone (albeit a voip one).

You can do either, or both,but absolutely you can use an app on your phone
