Looking to buy a 5 year old used RAV4 hybrid, it has 84k and in good condition.

Only issue it has the following main dealer service history:

27/11/2020 – 8377 Miles
21/04/2022 - 27989 Miles
23/11/2023 - 62074 Miles + Hybrid system health check

Dealer said they would part-contribute to a Toyota service.

Now I know servicing on these cars should be oil change every 10k, so is way off what should have been done.

Going 34k & 20k between services worries me, yet it's had a service since and will now be due another full service.

With modern oils, can an engine cope with 30k on the same oil without incurring damage?

The car would definitely be a risk for me, just interested to hear anyone else's view on this.

I assume that is not from a Toyota a dealer ?  Is it a lot cheaper than one from a main dealer with full SH ?

Any problems down the line and it is unlikely you will get any help from Toyota given the missed services

    It’s not just missed 2 , it’s missed 3

it went 20k , 30 plus k and now done another 20k plus

No, it's from an independent and is cheaper than the equivalent with full main dealer service.

Some of these dealers don't really know what full service history should be.

Call a main dealer and ask as the vehicle is less than 10 years old and 100,000 miles if the car has a full Toyota service and any faults are rectified will it benefit from a one year Toyota backed warranty, regardless of previous servicing records.

So I've been told that getting it serviced at Toyota would receive a 12 month warranty, which I believe falls under their relax warranty, but unsure if it would cover engine failure?

I'll try and ring Toyota tomorrow and see what they say. Thanks

RELAX is only applicable up to 10 years/100,000 miles so with a service and any rectification needed to bring to up to standard may not be cost effective as you only have a 16,000 mile buffer, depending on your annual usage.

Buying a car that is only 5 years old with so much missing history makes you wonder how it has been treated.

I would say it's a slam dunk.  Engine blows up - no service history - no cover.

Check MOT history would not be surprised if it has been used as a taxi at some point.

I'd wondered that. It seems to have been doing about 20k/year after the first service which pushes it out of private owner into some fleet/taxi usage. That might just mean that it's been serviced in house and not a main dealer, with no receipts for it.

If so it's not a massive deal, and if it was cheap enough to consider without any manufacturers warranty it might be alright.

    Appreciate your views on this.

    MOT history:
    11/2022 - 41425m
    11/2023 - 62074m (child seat fitted)
    11/2024 - 81670m

The child seat makes me think it's probably not a taxi.

I spoke to my local Toyota garage this morning and they said I would get 12 months on a service, and it seems that they would only cover manufacturer issues. Even then I'd be surprised if they would honour it given lack of services on time.
