Firefox problem. Warning: Unresponsive script

I am currently running Firefox 2.0.0.11 on a 3 year old Dell laptop with 2gb memory and a 1.5 ghz processor.
Since a recent automatic Firefox upgrade a few weeks ago I am getting regular problems with unresponsive scripts.
It appears to happen if I open up multiple Firefox sessions, rather than multiple tabs within one session if that makes sense.
My computer slows and all open Firefox sessions freeze. After maybe 20 seconds or so I get the following dialogue box:
Is this a known bug in this release or might there be something wrong with my PC or a setting I can change?
It is a bit irritating.
Thanks

Selecting “Continue” always restores normality and the problem page always opens so it is not a major problem.
A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now or you can continue to see if the script will complete.

Are you using noscript? Never seen that error here on the same version. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

Not knowingly.
I use whatever standard version of Firefox that Mozilla have installed. I haven't customised it in any way.
What is noscript? I can't see it in "Options" or find it in "help".
Thanks.
NoScript is a Firefox add-on here. I don't think that it can be a general problem as I have never seen that message. Check your options in Tools, Options, Content Tab. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
In Tools, Options, Content, all four options are ticked.
Block popup windows
Load images automatically
Enable Javascript
Enable Java
There is a long list of exceptions where popups are allowed.
I will have a look at Noscript and think about trying it out.
Thanks for your help.

I have the same problem except that I usually open up tabs rather than new windows. I find that before the warning message shows up the whole computer starts slowing down so that I can almost predict when I'm going to be asked if I want to continue running the script. Also if I do let the script continue the pc still remains almost unuseable due to it's slowness and I have to shut firefox down completely. So it seems that you are better off than me. I do have a workaround though. I leave all the firefox windows + tabs open and then use windows task manager to close the firefox process. That way when I start ff up again I can get back to where I was by restoring it when asked by firefox's launcher.

Like you I wish I knew how I could avoid though. Maybe a trip to mozilla's support forums will be required when I have the time for it.0 -
Are you sure that this is not caused by some other software silently blocking certain scripts e.g. firewall, internet security package etc? Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

I can't rule that out entirely but I suppose I can start turning other processes off and seeing the results. I have not made any changes to my software or hardware since this problem started to show up so it may be unlikely that there is something quietly interfering with ff.0

uninstall it, and try a fresh download.0

I get this as well, not the script bit but everything else with too many tabs, the whole computer slows down and firefox stops responding whilst trying to load a page, and certain websites seem to trigger it off even more, namely Ciao and Digital Spy, I too use the same fix, but it is annoying, it is worse since the last update to Firefox too.I always wanted to be a procrastinator, never got round to it...0 -
@Avoriaz .... try this ....
- In the Firefox address bar, type about:config and press Enter.
- Scroll down and find the entry that says dom.max_script_run_time
- Double-click on that entry and change the value (the default is 5) to something higher. Most sites suggest 20 but I recommend raising it to 1000.
- Click OK.
- Restart Firefox.
Good luck.
