3rd Party Fault Claim

Hi on the late May bank holiday 2024 I turned right into a side street and had to do an emergency stop to avoid hitting a pedestrian who had just stepped backwards into the road in front of me - this resulted in me stalling the car and being completely stationary. A car emerging from the side street and turning right thereby adjacent to me - hit the rear drivers side tyre and back panel. He proceeded to complete his turn and drove down the street progressing nearly 200yads from the accident and only stopped when my passenger starting taking photos of his numberplate. He came back to my car - spat on his hand and proceeded to rub off the paintwork scratches on my car telling me it was just a polish job. He then denied he hit me and told me it would be a 50%50% situation with the insurance companies - I told him I had been stationary with no engine running.
He only gave me his name and address - no insurance details and drove off - on the way home he started to call me repeatedly on the mobile - I did not pick up - he then left me a message telling me to get quotes and he would pay for the damage - I went off to get quotes the following day only to receive a text from him saying he had changed his mind and was going through insurance. My insurance company have said they dont think it was my fault and yet have still some 8 mths later no had liablity admitted by his insurers .My insurance company have appointed solicitors to recover the costs of the repair ( in excess of £1000 - as I had to have a new tyre and wheel allignment ) - his insurer has just offered 50%50% and I have rejected this outright and am prepared to go to court if necessary - having changed my sim recently dont have record of his calls or texts so my word against his etc etc - also when I gave his insurance details to my insurer was told that the car reg did not match the insurance details........think I am dealing with a shady character and am concerned about this affecting my 17 year no claims record- any advices please ?

I'm not sure you need any further detail from the other driver. His name should be enough. Do you have a witness?
It sounds like there's something dodgy going on with the other driver. Hopefully your insurance won't penalise you if it turns out the other driver was not insured.
Trust your insurance company. They're on your side. No point worrying. You insurance company, or solicitors appointed by them, will tell you everything you need to do.1 -

Without knowing what his version of events are its hard to say, it ultimately comes down to which is more plausible and if the insurer is willing to fund court or want the easy way out of a split settlement.
Details not matching is not automatically a dubious thing, if you buy via a middleman they may assign their own reference number which is different to the underlying insurer and clearly he is on cover given the settlement offer form his insurers.0
