Landline to fibre optic

Good morning all,
Sorry if this has been discussed before, but cannot find an answer on here or anywhere else. 
We are looking to change our broadband provider which is currently Sky. A lot off providers are now not offering landline.
We have elderly relatives who are not on broadband, so my question is if we swap to broadband only and voip, will our relatives still be able to call us from their landline, ie if we go to fibre and they are on copper cable, will it work.

Yes it will. In the same way that landline calls to mobiles work, different platforms and technologies, but interconnected.

All landline telephony will eventually be VoIP , or proprietary versions of it ( like BT Digital Voice ) , even your elderly relatives will in time be on VoIP not PSTN  , even if they never get ‘broadband’ as such , they will , in the background , be using voice over internet protocol .
Landline  only customers, will   be the among the last ones to be migrated, but that should be before January 2027 .

As stated , obviously different networks have to be able to connect with each other , so from that point of view , you being on VoIP and them not being on VoIP (yet) is no different to a Virgin customer calling a Sky customer, separate networks but capable of interconnecting connecting each other .
