Landlord is having my flat repossessed, how long does this process take?

Options
Hi all,

I don't really know where to start, I have a huge huge amount of questions about the whole process but I should start with finding out a few specifics.

I've just found out my landlady has a court appearance on March 26th, informed by letter from a solicitors. Reading between the lines it's 99.99% certain this is the beginning(?) of repossession from the bank.

I've started doing my research from where that leaves me but I was hoping you would be able to help me with how long repossession takes? If the court case is on the 26th March, is it decided on the day and then the bank owns the house? Working out how much time I have before the worst case scenario.

Does anyone have any experience or knowledge of this and can give me a little insight ?

The bank isn't going to "own" the house from the day of the first court hearing, even worst case will allow some notice of an eviction. We're talking at least weeks, possibly months if the court case is adjourned etc, possibly not at all if the landlord gets their act together and finds enough money.

The bank taking possession of the property does not automatically end your tenancy, what kind of tenancy do you have?

Have a read of the Shelter article, it is quite useful.

Fixed term tenancy that ends in January. From what I've read it very much depends on the mortgage that the landlady has on this place but my estate agents don't know and I don't believe I know how to find out that information
