80% equity at 55 - bad idea?

    If you believe that past performance is a guide to future performance, in that over a longer period you will do better with a higher percentage of equity then go ahead.

    I'm 63, with 80% equity, 20% cash. Also some other assets (house, cars, other possessions).

    As things stand, I don't anticipate ever needing to access the investments (and I don't take any income from them) because the cash figure could be sufficient. 

    I maintain the 20% figure by annually swapping some equity (when necessary) for a STMM etf inside an investment account. I regard the latter as part of my cash holding.
