Is it worth changing names? (Easyjet and Ryanair)

OK, so long story short, I have a three flights booked within a few days at the end of March (one Ryanair, two Easyjet). The person I was travelling with has let me down and cannot go any longer. I may be able to get another friend to come with me.
As we know, the name change fees are pricey and I can still book another seat on the same flights for cheaper than it would cost to change the name. What is the best way to go about it?
I'm not sure what the policy is as the original person travelling with me is obviously on the same booking. If I do nothing, does it just go as a no-show? We share the same surname too so not sure if I'd be questioned on why they aren't there?
Or is the best way just to bite the bullet and do the name change? Thanks.

if the name change fee is higher than the cost of buying a new flight then buy the new flight and don't bother with the name change.
If the Easyjet flights are departing the UK you may be able to claim back the APD too if you cancel them0 -
Thanks. Would I face any questions at the airport as to why the other person on my booking didn't turn up? It also seems I have to check us both in together, at least on Easyjet.0
