C'est la vie, you'll just have to wait another year.1

NCDP typically allows up to 1 claim in a policy year and no more than 2 claims in 3 policy years. You typically cannot buy NCDP with less than 4 years NCD.meekahmoo said:I had to claim on my car insurance for an at fault claim which reduced my NCD to 4 years . My insurer won't provide protected NCD if I have under 5 years.
There are no rules or regulations around NCD however so each company can set their own rules and costs. If your insurer won't allow you to have NCDP with your history thats fine, you either buy without or you change insurer. Dropping to 4 years NCD however is odd, the vast majority would drop you to 3 years after a fault accident and hence you cannot get NCDP
In my day, and NCD has changed since then, 5+ NCD plus NCDP was more expensive than 3 years NCD which is what you got if you had a fault accident with 5+ years so for the vast majority you were paying more to be protested than being unprotected after a claim0 -
I protected my no-claims as soon as I hit five years NCD in 1995. I shudder to think how much this has cost me over the 30 years
