Yieldgimp for poor people

Options
Is anyone aware of a yieldgimp alternative which, in addition to showing the effective yield for 40% taxpayers, does the same for we poor people who are just standard rate taxpayers?

Thanks
V

Using the half way point between the gross redemption yield and the 40% taxpayer redemption yield should be pretty close to the basic rate taxpayer redemption yield (it will very slightly under-estimate the yield)
Or you could calculate it using the yield function in excel. Using the coupon in the formula should give you the gross redemption yield. Once you have checked that agrees with say yieldgimp, then change the coupon input in the formula to 0.8 x coupon to get the basic rate taxpayer redemption yield.

I do not know of any, but you can estimate the redemption yield for a standard rate tax payer by simple proportion. It will be in the middle of the redemption yield for a non-tax payer and a 40% tax payer.

I generally double check calculations myself and of course taking into account the personal allowance and starting rate for savings is a wrinkle, Comparing savings accounts and gilts, the redemption figure from yieldgimp is good enough. I forget if yieldgimp corrects for accrued.
  • Hi V, if you have an iPhone (or access to one), then the app YieldGimp allows you to change the income tax rate to suit your purpose.

Unfortunately I am only a humble basic-rate taxpayer, and so can't afford an iPhone! ;-)
Just checked PlayStore and there is no Yieldgimp app for Android.

Do you have an iPad or a Mac? It should run on those as well.
  • there is now an Android app (link on www.yieldgimp.com) which allows you to customise the tax rate.
