Blank screen on Apple Classic Ipod??Please Help!!

Pleeeeease help!!
I bought the boyf a Apple Classic 80gb Ipod for xmas. He hasnt put it down & been adding music,films etc..well last night the screen froze on the menu screen..
I looked on net & the advice from apple site said toggle hold switch on the top & press & hold the menu & centre button untill the apple logo appears.well it unlocked but screen went completly blank..cannot get anything on. Tried charging it etc...any idea? dont wanna take it to a shop to be looked at just yet if its something we can do here!

tried pressing menu and centre again?0

Connect it to the charger and do the same process again.. It can take 4-5 times to work0

fully charge the battery, keep it plugged in and then reset.
