Parking Ticket

Hi,

Someone I know has received a FINAL REMINDER - Unapif parking charge £170 from DCBL. This is the second letter they have received from the DCBL.

They where parked in the car park for around 5-10 minutes roughly back in 2022 when realised they where in the wrong car park and decided to move on.

They are looking for advice on what to do with this letter, as when they first received a fine from the parking company they appealed it at the start.

It then got passed to DCBL and the person has never acknowledge the letters they have received, also the name of the person is wrong spelling completely a different first name, but the address is correct.

Does this person respond to the DCBL and take it serious regarding the fine?
Or can it be ignored?

the person is from Scotland and the fine was in Scotland. Not sure if this impacts anything?

Thanks in Advance

You can ignore in Scotland see NEWBIES thread and search forum to read other threads.
This recent article gives a good explanation apart from CAB's advice think they're referring to England Wales. Single pcns in Scotland don't end up in the Sheriff court as no costs can be claimed when claim is under £300.

It makes a big difference in Scotland though did the "person" identify themselves as the driver by appealing which was not the right thing to do.
Highly unlikely to go anywhere in Scotland where things are a little different to England/Wales just ignore the muppets unless you get anything that looks like a claim.
It isn't a "fine" by the way it's an invoice or exactly what the paperwork states a charge.

I believe the person appealed at the start to the parking company. But now it has been passed to DCBL (Direct Collection Bailiff Ltd) .

only noted it was a fine, as the first letter I received was a fine from the parking company.

Thanks for the reply and piece of mind, it’s appreciated

The person has heard that it can affect credit rating if it continues to rise

    The person is ill informed.
The first reply was all you needed to know.

They are called Direct Collection Bailiff but they aren't acting as bailiffs here (it probably states as much at the bottom of their letter).
Also no where on any paperwork from the parking company will you see the word "fine" used.

...Heard from a bloke down the pub?  :D

Search the forum for some sensible replies given on this board hundreds of times over the years to posters in Scotland.

  • Hi,
the person has now received another letter stating

    “Final Notice of Debt Recovery”
We will now recommend our client to begin legal action against said person, and can face further charges added to the outstanding debt.

They have stated that if successful it can then be taken to county court judgement.

not sure what to do about this?
    Any help please?

Do we have County Courts in Scotland? NO we have Sheriff Courts. Funny the debt company doesn’t know that!

Instead of believing what their letters say do a Google search to verify their claims eg County Court Scotland.
