Similar to the OP's query, I've been asked this week about a cashiers cheque issued in 2003 which we can't find records of. I know that the rules are that all transactional data needs to be kept for 6 years, but was wondering if anyone knows how long this rule has been in place for.
This has been in place for many years certainly before 2003!

And it is advisable to keep your own account details for some years also (tax reasons), but obviously he destroyed them

surely you would have known whether this had been paid in or not.
have you checked all your cupboards, or ordered statements on all your accounts from those dates?
  • The drafts definitely havent been payed in!! £25 an hour plus vat and how long would it take.Reluctant to admitt it but from the A&L point of view it seems itsdown to me.
  • The A&L have sent me a booklet about complaining to the Ombudsman. Will this do any good or is it a waste of time.

There is no definite answer here - it could take a very long time.
You could go to the Ombudsman but unless you have all the relevent information how are they going to resolve it?

The complaint would also have to be made by your father as he is the only one they should correspond with.
