Lost Abbey National shares (now Santander?)

Hi. I am trying to recover a lost company pension. I opted out of SERPS in 1986 (I think it was that year) and worked for 5 years with the company who were using Abbey National which then I understand became Santander. We were given 1 share of Abbey National and I no longer have any documentation to recover it. I have tried Gallagher, to no avail. I gave them my NI number, old address, birth date, in fact everything they asked me for, and still they have no knowledge of my lost share. Can anyone point me in the right direction of where to go from here? I have tried a few times over the years and nothing ever happens, like it is just lost.

It might not be of use, but I had an Abbey Stocks and Shares ISA in about 2002. This is now with Fidelity0

I appreciate it's frustrating, but a single share in Santander is worth roughly a fiver. It's probably not worth expending too much energy on ?

Abbey National became a plc in 1989. If you got something in 1986 it won't have been a share in the plc.
Did you get a paper certificate? Where would you have put something like that?
Are you sure it was for 1 share?
Did you get dividends on the share? If so when did they stop?
How is this connected to finding an old pension?1 -

How did you own the share? Was it a certificate or via a nominee e.g., stockbroker. If certificate, then the share registrar would be the one to know, in this case Equiniti.
https://www.santander.co.uk/about-santander/shareholdersIf certificated and you haven't been receiving dividends then the registrar probably doesn't know your address. This could be bad because so much time has passed that you may have forfeited the share back to Santander as most companies have a 6+ year untraced shareholder clause. See: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6504771/shares-forfeitedhttps://www.mortgagestrategy.co.uk/news/banco-santander-takeover-of-abbey-complete/
"Under the scheme, Abbey shareholders are entitled to 1 new Banco Santander share as well as a special cash dividend of 25p plus 6p for dividend differential, totalling 31p, for each Abbey share held at the Scheme Record Time."1 -
What did the company you work for do? There’s a company called Gallagher who owns an Irish company called Abbey Limited
