Martin - PLEASE name the tarrifs

I'm really struggling here.

I watched the TV show last week about energy fixing. It was mentioned that "Outfox the market" still had a really good fixed deal available. I'm a member of the cheap energy club, so logged on. But the club knows which tariff I'm on right now, so every tariff was extra, the cheapest outfox was +13%.

So, is the +13% on my bill the same tariff that Martin mentioned on his show as -6% from the current price cap?

The problem for me is that Martin doesn't name the tariff on his show, eg. Outfox The Market feb25(2). So, is that the good tariff, or have I missed it?

In future it would really help me if Martin named the tariff on his TV show, as when looking at the energy club comparisons, I can't see where the tariffs are versus the price cap (only vs my current tariff which is about to expire).

I didn't watch the programme, but Outfox might have had a good fix, for the average user, using 2700kwh electric, and 11500kwh gas, if they were currently on the standard variable rate.

It won't be better for everyone, and might not be better for you.

EDF (or was it Eon...anyway...) had also been mentioned as having a good fix, via an email from the cheap energy club, but that wasn't cheaper for me.

If in doubt, look at the unit rates and standing charges of your tariff, and compare then with any potential new ones.

Edited to add, the rate may have been pulled. For example, Octopus are now on version three of their February fixed tariff. Things change quickly.

There was an Outfox tariff mentioned in the weekly email I think - I’d be surprised if it wasn’t the same one Martin mentioned in the show.

Outfox the market dont appear to be very eco friendly as their fuel mix is only 40% renewable vs octopus and others who are 100%

"Octopus sells about 25TWh of electricity to consumers in the UK per year. 20% of that comes from energy generated directly by the company’s renewables arm. The remaining 80% relies on REGOs to reach the threshold to be described as a “green tariff.”

The price of REGOs hit an all-time high in October last year, at £20 per megawatt hour. Octopus told Sifted it spends £250m a year on the certificates, at current prices"

He can't mention which one as it may not be cheapest for all.

Just get your useage figures and do your own comparison.  The one issue with the comparison sites is they can't take into account any other extras as part of the deal.  For example Sainsbury Energy (EON) offer Nectar points, EON don't and some of their current fixed rates are cheaper, but are they cheaper if you take into account the Nectar points?

Yes, but he does on the website and on the newsletter, just not on the TV show.

When I look now at the website under energy, he does list tariff names but links to the energy saving club to make sure it works for you.

On the TV show he mentions names of suppliers without naming the deal. I just found it a bit difficult to know which tariff he was referring to on the TV show, when I was in a (desperate!) hurry to switch.

To be honest renewable isn’t high on my list when changing suppliers……it’s purely price driven
