Shall I go with Ovo with boiler cover?

Oh, I was about to ask this before today's announcement, now it'll be a big topic. I have moved into a flat just over a month ago and I now need to figure out which fix, without really knowing what my consumption will be.
On the Cheap Energy Club comparisons, Ovo came out cheapest and their cheapest option was one year with a 6 month half price on a year's boiler cover. Somehow I can't quite get my head around this deal. I'm a bit paranoid about the boiler and big costs coming as I was renting before so this appealed as it included a boiler service but another part of my head worries. Any advise. Some info about the cover here:

Im an OVO customer and switched to Fixed tariiff from variable    without boiler cover.this morning .
But still offered me the 6 month  Boiler cover  before i submitted and then again when i had submitted.
Also looked like you had to choose your amount of excess. So if you are just after fixed  maybe try that without boiler cover.and decide the options before you submit.

I've signed up to that now. It was still there for me. I still have the 14 days cooling off period though, if anyone thinks I'm mad to do that!

They use contract boiler engineers and pay them peanuts so you won’t get a full boiler  service, you’ll get a quick check with a gas analyser.
They offered me £28 a service when £40 is the going rate with other insurers.  I think you can guess where I told them to stick it . 😉
An engineer getting £28 is going to find a lot of boiler ‘problems’.

I've always found boiler cover to be much cheaper through home insurance policy

Your repair have a good reputation and are fairly cheap for cover.  I do around 400 services a year for them plus repairs, as one of their contract engineers and don’t hear any complaints from customers.

So I used the cooling off period and cancelled Ovo. I'm going to stay with Eon Next but should I fix or go on the pledge tariff?
