Northern Romania is just a stunning place. Very unspoilt and nice people (drink and food a plenty and very cheap). The main towns are Tirgu Mures (airport) and ...sorry but another one i cannot remember also with an airport (check the maps). I very often go to the town of Bistrita half way between these 2 towns. The only problem you will find is getting a taxi when you arrive as cars have to be booked or pre-arranged. There are also train connections from Bucharest again, dirt cheap. If you have a special request or trip idea, contact me privately and I will find out for you. I have plenty contacts on the ground. Cheers.
  • Have booked a day trip going from our local airport so everything is laid on - however I would like to take some local currency for any little nik naks during our tour of the villages - how much would you recommend ?!. It looks an amazing place and I hope we will be able to visit other parts of it next year as well.

The local currency is the Romanian Lei and the rate of exchange is about 36000 Lei per Euro. For example, a full meal with wine will cost around 10 Sterling....!I guess you might have to change on site as Lei might not be available everywhere else.

    Enjoy.

Totally agree with you regarding people and place - absolutely gorgeous

But am really really annoyed to hear that tigre mures has an airport !
As when we went 10 years ago ( to do a challenge Anneka - hospital) we flew into Bucharest and then endured a hellish 8 hour drive........... although the scenery was gorgeous ;)
