Help to analyze my Gas bills
I hope someone can help me, My energy supply company Peoples Energy, went bust back in 2021, our energy supplier was automatically transferred to British Gas. Since the transfer I have had nothing but trouble with my bills, at one point my bill jumped to £6,227.39 in one month. It took me 9 months of constant phone calls to get some sort of answer to why this had happened and get some reduction, my bills were recalculated but they did not have actual readings and estimated my usage, although I have a smart meter that they can read now.
I have never been happy with the outcome and believe that the estimation were too high, despite raising several complaints I have had no one contact me from BG since.
Is there anyone or organization that would be able to look at my bills and check them, as I can not make any sense from them due to all the changes.
I am now still in debit to GB for £2,708 and they want to put my DD up to £555.43, there is no way I can afford this.
TIA

Give us what actual readings you do have - go back as far as you can. Please read the meter today ( the meter in the garage or meter box not the IHD toy in the kitchen)Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

You might be lucky and have a local CA office still. If so ring or pop in.
But in interim gather as much energy consumption use as possible.
And if got past bills keep them - especially around the solr switch to bg could be key.
Even having a smart meter shouldn't stop you keeping records.
I keep bills around meter and supllier swaps for years having read so many having problems.
BG have been in a mess even with existing customers as migrate billing system platforms - you might even have been caught up in that.0 -

Being a smart meter, it will be metric reading cubic metres.Toto the Clowns pulled that stunt on me, and even after them going bust, leaving EDF to sort out the mess, I haven't had a corrected bill. Switched to a new supplier (OFTM), and they sorted out the meter issue in a matter of hours. Her courage will change the world.
Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.1 -
Hi, thank you for your speedy reply, it would be very difficult to add all the readings from the bills on here as there are so many changes. I think it would be easier for you to see the bills and you can see when credit have been made too. As i said before when i did manage to get someone to look at the overcharges they said they had to calculate them from what i had used previously but i cant understand why they could not use the readings.
I have added all my bills minus the personal information to a web page with my current readings.
Thanks again for even offering to look at this.
Thank You.

In Nov 22 you were just in credit . Back in March 23 you were £5,392 in debt and that has risen since.
The March readings are showing wildly different last and present reading - 26716 present 4260 last , - and consequently high bill . Both of these are shown as ACTUAL - perhaps the 26716 is mis read - should be 2671 ?
Have you bills previous to March 23 ?
You are a relatively high user - a little over 3000 kWh Elec and 11000 kWh Gas.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
I only looked at the latest bill, for 8 December. There's something fishy already in the first line: how do 262.3 m³ of gas equate to 8268.5 kWh? Answer, they don't, but 262.3 x 100 ft³ do:
262.3 x 2.8317 (m³/100 ft³) x 1.02264 (correction for temp. and pressure) x 39.1 (MJ/m³ CV) / 3.6 (MJ / kWh) =
Gas meter readings and bill calculation - GOV.UK
They have taken your readings as if they were from an Imperial meter from the last millennium. The actual kWh figure is
262.3 x 1.02264 x 39.1 / 3.6 = 2913.4
You might have to send them a photo showing the bigm³
on it.
I'm not being lazy ...
I'm just in energy-saving mode.3
