What can I use to act as studs to fasten on to hard HDPE plastic to give more traction?

Kind of a modified DIY traction mat idea.
Already bought some mats but they are not specifically made as traction mats, rather mud mats to suppress the mud and give ground stabilization. See here: mudcontrol.co.uk
Want to get more traction as they slip on inclines so thinking screw in something spiky so the tyres can grab similar to commonly known traction mats.
I am thinking a pyramidal shape like the studs on s & m bondage gear leather jackets but not sure if there is anything comparable in shape to fasten securely to the plastic mats?
Easy solution is a few hundred screws in a similar configuration to the common traction mats.
Any better suggestions than screws though that might be more tractiony? As spiky as could be but not so spiky as to puncture the tyres! Also have to be able to secure down strongly so would have to be screwed in.
Don't want to use nails as they have a habit of coming out and don't want a bunch of nails buried in the field to possible get stepped on sometime later.

HDPE is very difficult to glue to. It is described as having a low surface energy, which means special (i.e. expensive) adhesives are required.
I think you will be better with screws driven in the mats. I would go with a large dome-headed screw like the ones needed for securing steel sheet roofing. These: Stainless Steel Self Drilling Dome Head Screws - 4.8 x 19 x 12 - 100 P – Mainline Products
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.0 -

Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.0
