    Thanks everyone…

Didn’t realise re-do flat roof would need to do so much structure change.

lifting the lintel costs too much for 7cm unless there is a way of burying the lintel within the roof ? See some flat roof has ceiling to wall sliding door.

we had bad experience with building work, every time I look at it just feels regret / anxiety.

Doesn’t look like there is anything I can fix without costing 10k over. The sliding door itself would be 10k on its own.

Will look at the garden option.

Your extension looks fine and I think a garden redesign would compliment it. We put up with a boring rectangular lawn with ill-chosen shrubs for years as neither of us are great at visualising things. My daughter and son in law asked us what we wanted and the design they came up with has transformed the garden.

Whether you call it karma, vibrations or atmosphere, it’s clearly become attached to the room, at least for you. You could actively replace it with better associations. People do feng shui, have an exorcism, burn incense or throw a housewarming party, but whatever works for you!

Once the work is complete and you start getting the benefit of the extension hopefully the bad memories will fade and you will retain the positives of the benefits.  To be honest the garden view looks fine to me from the extension.  Would I be right to think you are regretting the loss of view from the room beyond the extension?

I think the problem is it’s a long room, about 8m. The closer to the entrance, the worse the view is. 🙈…

we have kitchen by the entrance, sofa by the garden area to get the most out of it..

the build was nightmare, we were making snap decisions day by day. Only all the storm calms I now look back, have all the would have / should have regrets…

not good for my mental health.

So then put in a room divider / open backed bookshelf / tall plant half way up. That way at the entrance side, your view is broken up a bit. Closer to the window is when you start really looking outwards.

A gentle sweeping curve might look better - Much would depend on how much the ground slopes beyond what we can see..

Sweeping curves are also better if the wall is retaining soil... structurally stronger than straight walls when it comes to resisting horizontal loads from the supported ground.

Look at it as though you have just moved into this house and you have to live with what is there.

When you are sat down you will have a totally different perspective of the view,

Check put  design ideas for patios and terraced gardens keeping in mind what you are capable of doing yourselves.

Walls can be constructed of sleepers or gambions
