Timeshare Electricity Prices
Options
Hi, we have a timeshare which we go to every year however we are becoming more concerned about the high price of the electricity for our stay. I think the average cost at the moment in the UK is around 24-25p per kW also the off peak rate is around half that. Last week we were charged an eye-watering 38p per kW day or night, making our weekly bill for nominal use (cooker once a day, a couple radiators on in the mornings) over £160 for 7 days! I took this up with the reception staff at checkout to be greeted with rolling eyes and told to put our concerns on the feedback forms. I was just wondering if this rate is normal for timeshares or are we being ripped off?
Thank you in advance.

No idea about timeshare rates - but just wondering if the charge takes into account the standing charge maybe? Also presumably it is charged a commercial rate not domestic per unit?0

Do you get an itemised bill? Do you have access to the meter?0

Is your timeshare in the UK? ( I assume so).
It's almost certainly a commercial tariff which will be more expensive than a domestic one and have a higher daily standing charge.1 -
Not sure what rules apply specifically to tjme shares - but on the face of it - not abnormal commercial rates these days - which could be on a long term fix - still with overhang of crisis peak pricing. Which without peak epg discount at c34p - went as high as 68p per kWh.
DDiscounts like ebss and epg were not given to commercial arrangements..
Seen many posts here quote even higher range - well into tge 40s - in last 12-24 months.
You may also be paying higher than 5% vat as not a normal domestic arrangement.
And you forget that whilst likes of e7 have night rates in the 15p range ag some - not all Suppliers - in order to balance that day rates are in the c30p plus range - so average out around the 25p.
But £160 or 7 days even at 38p - even allowing for £1/ day SC is 153/0.38 = 400kWh.
That's a lot for a week.
Suspect you might have forgotten showers and other hot water use from your power usage list etc. A 10 min shower at 9kW would have been pushing 60p per day etc.0 -
Possibly not unreasonable considering that it's probably a commercial tariff with 20% VAT added. The standing charge can also be quite high: are you billed separately, or is it just bundled up into the kWh rate?Does the billed usage (it's kWh, BTW) match up with the meter readings you took at the start and end of your visit?0

And does it include any heating or lighting for unlet periods shared between those who do have slots ? Or are those built into management charges separately.0

Hi thank you for all your replies I really appreciate it. Its a UK timeshare and I'm not too sure how it is calculated (standing charge inclusion). We have to take a note of the meter reading on beginning our week and one on leaving. It did tally up to the amount of usage x kW rate so I'm assuming not. They use electric only (no gas) showers cookers hot water and also the heating are old storage heaters which bleed money hence the high usage. Everyone was commenting about it this week. I just thought it was very high considering. I must be out of touch. Thank again for your replies.0
