Vegetables don't deposite limescale, the water does. So just boiling water is going to leave limescale deposits on the pans. Stainless steel is far mroe susceptible tot hat than non stick pans, that's from ym experience of boiling water in a stainless pan and a non stick pan.. Pasta tends to leach starch which I expect suspends the limescale in the water rather than letting it stick to the sides.Besides, arguing about who's cleaning is better is a bit pointless. If vinegar works for KxMx, then it works, if your version works, it works. No one's is better. It's just your way. Going to go with the Levellers here and sayThere's only one way of lifeAnd that's your ownNot a competition guys...

I'm another who's very satisfied with her IKEA 365 pans. I've had mine for many years now. If there's room, they go in the dishwasher, with no problems.Sealed Pot Challenge no 035.

I have one ikea 365 pan I got off a skip, it's great. I have their stainless steel roasting trays, they're great too. Personally, I would look at fbmp or ebay or similar to find second hand stockpots, they do come up [ I've been lucky a couple of times]. Can't help with the rest because I tend to buy from chazzers or secondhand shops for stainless.

to the original poster: my vote is IKEA. I am still using the pots I purchased from there in the year 2000."Be the type of woman that when you get out of bed in the morning, the devil says 'Oh crap. She's up.'

Another vote for Stellar from me, there's also Vogue which is the in house brand sold by Nisbets the catering supplier.
The other places I'd think worth a look to see what they might be offering are Dunelm, Harts of Stur, Sainsbury's, Tesco, Marks and Sparks, ebay and any of your local charity shops.
Good brands I've found in charity shops before now are Jonelle (John Lewis's own brand), Shulte-Ufer and Stellar so give that a go before lashing out on new ones and be prepared to look past any baked on dirt.
There's also the possibility of the Amazon reduced pages that Martin mentioned in last week's email which are here.
Another thing you could try is asking on Freegle to see if anyone is having a declutter, you never know and you might just ask at exactly the right time to help someone else.
I'm not sure where you are but if you're near me in Oxford there is a house clearance shop that is like Aladdin's cave in Headington that you could try, they have whole tables of pots, pans, crockery and so on that is well worth a good rummage.2 -
I love my stellar pot - it has level markings on the inside, drain holes, glass lid to see inside. They aren't cheap, but not expensive either.
However unless you are very heavy handed, I would think even the cheapest stainless steel pots and pans would last a lifetime.Statement of Affairs (SOA) link: https://www.lemonfool.co.uk/financecalculators/soa.phpFor free, non-judgemental debt advice, try: Stepchange or National Debtline. M&S have a great value tri-ply stainless pan set, currently on sale for £60 for 3 saucepans. Definitely not the cheapest available, but for tri-ply, it's really excellent value. Comparible to the LeCruset set at over £400!If you're not familiar with the difference between them and regular stainless steel - tri ply has the same layers throughout the pan, the sides are the same the base, meaning excellent even heating all over. Most stainless has a 'sandwich' base to conduct heat well on the bottom, but the sides are just thin stainless.0

calleyw said:I want to replace my non stick pans with stainless steel. Money is tight so it will be stop gap until I have some more money to upgrade in a couple of years. I have been looking at ikea and they don't look to bad for the price. I need a stockpot as I batch cook at once a week. And then another couple of pots.So please give me ideas and links
I've used ProCook recently and they seem to be OK. https://www.procook.co.uk/

I have M&S stainless pans. They are best I’ve ever had and I have had many different pans over the years. Currently in the process of replacing my Always pans. Do not recommend them at all, what a waste of money.1
