Fixed Term contract redundancy and staying with same employer

I have been offered statutory redundancy as my contract is not been renewed and the post has been made redundant. End date confirmed in writing.

Also there is no alternative employment available on my current grade or lower.

In light of this, I have applied for a higher grade post off my own back in another department, same employer and have an upcoming interview.

If I got this job, would I have to forego my redundancy payment? The job is different to what I do in parts and I would not start this until maybe a week after other post ends (ie I would break service).

Could anyone advise on this? I do not see this job as alternative as it is above what I am on now. By the time I gave a months notice, my contract will have ended.

Why do you need to give notice?

You will need to check the T&Cs of the redundancy package.  Some will say that if you remain/return to the company within a short period you need to forego or return any redundancy money received.  Some will say you can try the new position but if you or the hiring manager decide it's not a good fit then you still can walk away with the redundancy.

The latter is often the situation with redundancy redeployment, and I think companies are supposed to try to redeploy staff rather than lay them off when roles are made redundant.
From your description that's not the process you followed, nevertheless your employer's HR may consider that's what is going on.
