Booking.com hosts don't seem to reply to queries?

I have used Booking.com happily in the past but often find that if I have a query that I want to check on in advance of booking/paying, hosts rarely if ever reply. This is in contrast to AirBnB where hosts ttend to be very responsive (but it's often more costly for single night stays). Has anybody else found this problem and a way around it?

I always attempt to contact prior to booking, if no satisfactory response then I move on.1
