DFS sofa smell

I also purchased the Sofia Sofa from DFS, it arrived 6 weeks ago. Loved the colour and cushions that came with it however after not much time noticed the smell from the sofa. At first I thought someone smelly had been sat on it however the smell comes from all over the sofa. I bought a spray from Amazon but it’s not strong enough to cover it. It’s a horrible dried sweat almost type smell - it actually distracts me when trying to watch TV and if someone sits on the sofa it makes the smell stronger. I think I am going to contact customer services about this as the smell has not reduced at all since purchasing.1

Hi, I am having a similar issue. I bought the DFS PLUSH velvet sofa last autumn and within a few months a smell developed. Airing the cushions used to work and now it has become unbearable. No amount of airing takes the smell away. It has evolved from the scatter cushions, to the seat pads, to now the entire sofa stinks. When I unzip the scatter cushions, the smell hits you in the face. It seems to me to be coming from the fire retardant black lining which lines all the velvet. The smell is unbearable now. It smells like garlic/onion/chemical all at once. I've looked into this and now have serious concerns about off-gassing. I have had a velvet sofa before and never had this issue (not DFS). I have contacted DFS and I also took out sofa cover with Guardsman, but I'm not reading good things about them online either, so that feels like a waste of money. There's no physical damage so I doubt they'll do anything. At the moment I am airing it as much as I possibly can and have removed all the scatter cushions, but I definitely know what you mean by the smell transferring to your clothes. My living room throws etc all stink and have had to keep them off the sofa. Getting to the point I don't even want to sit on it and just want the thing out my house! Who knows what we're breathing in.0
