Assume you mean that you had an insurance policy cancelled by the provider? Most insurers with black boxes give you time to cancel the policy yourself to avoid such a situation, hence it never being an issue.

It is also not always for life, some ask the question within a defined time period (say 5 years), others do indeed asked in the context of ever. Saying that they may ask the question, but not apply any uplift if over 5 years for example.

That is just the way it is, nothing you or anyone can do about it, other than find an insurer who uses a defined period if it is making that much of a difference.

Because the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 explicitly limits how long criminals must declare their offences for based on the perceived severity. Were it not the case anyone with a petty criminal record would be unlikely to find employment etc again and therefore probably more likely to reoffend.

There is no law dictating how long you have to declare a cancelled policy, subsidence on your house, bankruptcy etc

Combine the title and the text and it gives a bit more of a clue.

    1) you need to read it in the context of the title

    2) you need to know that certain black box policies will terminate after certain infractions, like driving the car without logging in the app who's driving

    3) know that most insurers ask if you've ever had a policy cancelled, declined, voided or special terms applied

    4) spent a decade in call centres talking to people from all walks of life and not all native English speakers
