MOT with a Full or Interim service ?
Comments

Personally I'd just follow the manufacturer's guidelines on the frequency (mileage or time interval) for each aspect of maintenance. Except if I was keeping a car long-term and it had known issues with timing belt/chain, probably do that more frequently if the manufacturer gave a really long interval (eg Ford, Peugeot....) but that's a different topic in itself!0

Mr_Benn said:Thanks for all the replies. I think if the garages cut out the 'we do 50 checks' , many of which my cat could do, then cut the cost difference between interim and full, they might get more people having a full service.
And, of course, they'll charge fifty odd for the MOT which does the vast majority of the checks in the interim service.
£160 for changing the oil is extortion.
Of the two, £260 for the full service is definitely the better value.
But, as I said to start with, they aren't a "garage". They're a fast-fit tyre and exhaust place. For that, I'd certainly use them - and have done in the past. For actual servicing? No.0 -
No type of garage has ever been shown to be better at servicing. There is absolutely no reason not to take your car there. However all servicing is a bit random. They just do the jobs they fancy doing. The cat may do a better job to be honest.0

I had my EV serviced. A total waste of money just to stamp the book for the warranty. But what can you do? There was none of this swapping wheels round, fluid top ups etc. it looked like they just kicked a few tyres and stamped the book.0

Mr_Benn said:Hello all. MOT due in a week, but Im Just deliberating on wether to have a full or interim service at the same time (67 plate petrol i30 with 55k on the clock ). We have done 8,000 miles since the last full service. Is it worth the extra £100 to have the Full service, when I cant see that much that wont be covered by an MOT & Interim service ? (apart from an Air Filter and taking the wheels off to check brake disks etc).
Please bear in mind Im useless with cars so wouldnt be doing anything technical myself.
We use this garage and their list of what their services include are here : https://www.etbtyres.co.uk/car-servicing/
Thanks in advance.
Have a look at your service manual to see what needs to be done for your specific engine.

Depending on the engine it could need air filter, climate filter, fuel filter, brake fluid, spark plugs (if not changed at the age interval) on top of an oil and filter change.
