Why won't my bank let me turn my current account into a joint account?

The account will still be operational and pay direct debits etc, bit whoever is dealing with the estate should close the account quite quickly. If it's a joint account then it can stay open wiyh just the deceased persons name being taken off ot.maxximus75 said:Even after death I believe the account will still pay existing direct debits etc?1 -
Depend on banks. Some freeze account on being notified of death.maxximus75 said:It could be because the type of account and they may not be able to change it into a joint. If it’s an old account t then this can certainly be the case.

I think a lot of what the OP has suffered is instructions from higher management not to book interviews with customers that do not ''pay''.
By that I mean making an existing account joint = 0 sales points.
Open a new joint account = loads of sales points with the added opportunity of cross selling such as a paid for account, overdraft facility, Home insurance and Credit cards etc etc =mega sales points!
This is the way banks work now - when you need help they route you to a phone service from somebody working from home.0
