Cash on delivery - Sending money in the post

Hi.

I need to send a housebound relative £350 in cash (in the UK)
Does anyone know the best and safest way to do this?

Is it okay to send money in the post these days or maybe use some kind of COD service.

Thx.

I wouldn't. I don't think you can insure cash in the post

Can you not just do a bank transfer, its immediate and they can withdraw the cash at a post office or cash machine.

I wouldnt advise sending cash in the post unless you use Royal Mail Special Delivery which will be expensive.

Cash is covered with Special Delivery - it's why currency providers use it, OP says recipient is housebound, cash machine is not an option.

Do a bank transfer or hand deliver, don't post

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Cash on Delivery is normally the opposite, you pay the delivery driver for the goods you buy as they hand them over.

In Mexico you can order cash from their equivalent of Deliveroo/Uber Eats, which I found really odd concept

As others have said, Special Delivery does cover cash, and its cheaper than the commission the delivery firms charged :)

i have done it many times to my mother in scotland where the town bank and post office has closed and when the card machine is not working

i just put the cash in between pages of a small paperback book /wrap the book up in a pink dustbin liner /  /then heavily tape up the book with packing tape / put it in a padded envolope and post it second class large letter royal mail 48 hour unsigned for

    costs £2.80

never gone missing and is there in 48hr

it takes me 9 to 10 hours driving non stop from essex to west coast scotland if i leave at 9pm at night and there are only a few hold ups on the way so 48hr is brilliant

If the recipient is housebound, what use will cash be to her anyway?

You can order foreign currency online and have it delivered by royal mail special delivery so you should be able to send it yourself that way.

What do they need cash for? Isn't there a more convenient option?
