Refund for faulty goods - Appliances Direct

Hi,

I wonder if anyone can help.  I purchased a dehumidifier from them at the beginning of January.  This morning I came downstairs to find the unit had switched itself on and had an obvious fault.  Lights were flashing and the display was alternating between showing 13 and 74.  I switched it off and went off out for a bit.  When I came back it had switched itself on again.

I contacted Appliances Direct to ask for a refund, they flatly refused despite me making it very clear I did not want an electrical item switching itself on when there is nobody in the house.  They would only offer a replacement.  I have since found out that a previous model was recalled due to a circuit board issue causing the unit to overheat and catch fire.

Do I have any legal rights?  Everything I look at says you can only ask for a refund after one month. Thanks for any help.

Update:  I sat and thought I'm not having this so called them back.  Luckily, when I pointed out the previous fire issues with a different model causing my alarm with the risk of a unit switching on by itself they agreed to refund me.  Mightily relieved.  The Unit was a Electriq CP12.

Glad you got it sorted but..

Why did you leave it plugged in, knowing it had a fault?

Also think of having switched sockets👍

You can't delete threads and its best practice not to as people learning your solution can help them solve their own problems.

Technically if you had the items more than 30 days you dont have a statutory right to demand a refund unless there is a fault after they repair/replace the original. It's not clear when yours was delivered to know if you were inside or outside the 30 day limit but good that you got it sorted anyway.
