Bathroom sink waste trap

Attempting to replace bathroom sink waste trap. Tried 2, from  standard high street DIY shops, both leaked from the spring basin waste. Following this I checked out reviews and it seems it's not uncommon. Can anybody offer some advice on finding some better ones or what to do.    Tia

First think to check was were the seal(s) in place (the black rubber rings), easy to miss them sometimes depending on how they are packaged.

Can you see why it might leak, is it a bit loose, not sealing tight? Did you use ptfe tape on the thread so it did not bite too early?

Sometimes very difficult to get a seal on waste's unless you smear a bit of plumbers mate on the metal thread, usually does the trick. Finger tight then nip it up if it still weaps.

IIRC, with this sort of waste it's the thread that usually leaks and it's not an easy task to seal it. Silicone is possibly the only way to do this reliably. IMHO, this design is flawed.

If it's leaking from the main thread , try searching for basin mate - have worked every time for me

Basins seal on the bottom not the top.

As flash says Product code 8795R from Screwfix or b&q is the foolproof method. Cone shape robber pointing up under the sink then the plastic washer then the nut.

Other option is plumbers mait doughnut from below pushed into the joint

Otherwise they leak from the thread.

Thanks for all your help, that's sorted now. Unfortunately I've another leak at the point where the trap connects to the outside pipe, new washers perhaps?
