This sounds so familiar, my problem is with Lowell with a bit of Capquest.
Over 10 years ago hubby and I were lucky enough to pay off all our credit and debt of completely thanks to family. We have taken out no credit or hire purchase or loans, I've been disabled for nearly 30 years and we manage with what we have by carefully budgeting.
Suddenly about a year ago we started getting letters from Lowell about a debt for over £1000 from JD Williams, which we had paid off in full. They will not listen to anything including that if we did owe this it would be statute barred. This supposed debt was sold to Capquest, when asked they could provide no proof or information but we got a letter stating one account had been closed, its now back with lowell, 2 accounts and nothing closed and the daily phone calls continue.
I'm sure most folks here know what it's like being harrassed by these people but we only lost hubby's Dad in September and the stress and upset this is causing is beyond belief. I just wish I had looked on here sooner, excellent advice.
Thank you so much.

Make an official complaint to Lowell, its all you can do, give them the statutory 8 weeks to issue a final response and then take it to the FOS if not satisfied.
You can just ignore them, they can`t go anywhere with this, should they issue a court claim, you have a full defence.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Also consider speaking to your MP. They've got a lot else on their minds ATM but it would be easy to extinguish a debt when barred by statute. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0

Further and last update
Received my letter of complaint update today and Capquest have said that they had 2 accounts for me one from 2001 and another from 2005. they accepted the SB and closed both accounts under the SB limitation and stated that there was no error in them contacting me. they said that they had this apparent debt since 2007 and another they obtained in 2011 . no CCJs .
receiving this letter has totally now settled me feeling anxious and i’m so happy i didn’t ignore the letter and followered the advice on this forum.
thank you again for your advice i’ll be keeping the letter in case the debt pops up again.1 -
It was worth the letter of complaint as they ignored the SB letter and just referred me to OPUS .0
