VOA query - FHL to LTL

Options
Hello,

My holiday let has been running from January 2024 until present. I have paid the higher council tax for the whole year and am thinking of changing to LTL. As my application for business rates is still going through, if I did go down the LTL route, would I still get a refund for my council tax from Jan 2024 to Jan 2025 as I met the FHL criteria? One they’ve assessed my application?

It will depend on the Effective Date of change from CT to NDR
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

So I rented it out from today say, would I pay business rates from January 2024 to January 2025, and then council tax from January 2025 onwards as o won’t meet the FHL criteria for this tax year? Thanks

The only people who can answer that for certain are the VOA, but if your lettings meet the criteria, this could be the case. But I would urge you to confirm this with the VOA

If you let out the property on a residential tenancy, your tenant will be liable for paying the CT, not you.

Thank you.  I did ring them first and after 2 hours holding time, I was speaking to anyone who could man the phones, not a clue is what I got back.

Unfortunately current rules on FHL are well, well after my time in the VOA and as my office was not in a tourist area, never really came across them. Certainly never dealt with anything where it changed from A to B then back to A again, before the change from A to B had been actioned.
