Possible WorldPay Virus Email

On the 2nd February 2025 I received quite a convincing email from shopper@worldpay.com to my msn email inbox.
The subject line said "Your detailed safety report!"
The report detailed several threats (viruses) supposedly on my device. I opened the email using my mobile phone. The email recommended that I activated McAFee anti virus software. I'm unsure to whether the email is genuine, however, from looking at MSE forums I found other users who received similar emails, this being said, rhe reports from other users were from many, many years ago. Their advice at the time was it is a simple "virus" email with a purpose of sending viruses to users if they click on the links. So based on this information I ascertained not to click on any links and that this is indeed, a simple "virus" email. I just wondered whether in 2024 or 2025, whether other users have received the or a similar email. I will of course, investigate whether I can report the email to WorldPay and McAFee.

I can't see any reason why WorldPay would be telling you that you had a virus on your system. Have you checked that it really is from WorldPay (some of these scammers are pretty sneaky at spoofing email addresses quite convincingly) ?That aside, I'd just bin it, it's 100% just spam/phishing. I get similar ones every so often from various supposedly legitimate companies. Yes, you could forward it onto McAfee if they have a "report spam" address, but I'm never sure how much good that actually does. Personally I'd just bin it and forget about it.3

Cyrillic characters in place of standard characters a common issue. Copy and paste the email address into a document using only capital letters and seeif the address changes.WorldPay is not the same as WоrldРауCopy and pasted into Hollowtype Font and you get....

Who are WorldPay? A multi-national payment processing company, basically enables businesses to take payments by cards etc. So, stop and think... why would such a company be emailing you, a random person, a report about your "device"? Did you ask for one? If you had wanted one would you have gone to a company that specialises in business payments to get one? When did you give them access to your device to compile the report? Isnt it odd it doesn't even mention what device it is? Your phone? Laptop? TV?
Without seeing the email, its links and/or attachments it would be pure speculation as to if its trying to install some form of malware, phishing, affiliate marketing etc but the first two lines tells you its not what its claiming to be and therefore shouldn't be trusted.4 -
I've never encountered a situation where anyone would be emailing me to tell me I have a virus, let alone a company that isn't a cybersecurity company - don't click on any links or download anything if you do happen to click by accident, and then delete it and block the sender for future.2
