Hi all
Piggybacking on to here as I've just provided my NI number as I have exceeded 30 sales - nowhere near the £1740 threshold though.
I am a private seller - selling stuff from home and usually only have 1 of any item, though some of my items are in the same category eg old knitting patterns.
How do I 'prove' I'm a private seller?Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily Dickinson

I had to provide my NI number around April/May from what I can recall.
I have been spending much of this year clearing a lot of my computer and camera equipment - one piece of equipment can sell for £30 while another could sell for £700 or so alone. So my figure for this year so far is already at around 60 sales and £7500 value.
All from single items (not multiples of the same) and all, as stated, from my private use.
I'm expecting something from HMRC, to which I will be informing them it's from my private items and not subject to income tax. Some stuff is old so I do not have receipts for either. I've cleared most stuff now so can't see me having as much for next year, but will see how I get through this year first.
I'm not too concerned at this point as I know I'm just selling my items as usual and not trading etc, so not done anything wrong. Hopefully HMRC will see it for what it is too.....0 -
In the very unlikely event you are asked to prove you are a private seller, just respond truthfully and explain why you have so much to sell or such items that makes you look like a business.Valli said:Hi all
