More questions about LPA

Options
I do have a friend who I would trust to do LPA for me but she's only ten years younger than me. If I live to be 90 she will be 80. What happens if you set up and register a LPA and then the person appointed dies or becomes incapable before you do? Do you have to start all over again?
What if I have a long term incapacity for ten years and while acting for me my LPA also becomes incapable with  something e.g. a stroke or dementia?
This is what worries me about asking a friend to act

yes they have to start all over again with a new attorney  but if  by then you don't have capacity then it has to go to court of protection - possibly good idea to have more than one attorney - even if the second is only a back up
