Loveholidays feeling scared of hotel

Hi everyone I’m new here and I hope someone could point me in the right direction please. We have a family holiday booked through love holidays to find out about a week later a family recently return from the same hotel (in Hurghada Egypt) and they was sexually assaulted by the security at the hotel! Drinks being spiked etc etc so we now feel unsafe to go (end of March 2025). Spoke to loveholidays to cancel and they are aware of what’s happen but saying we still have to pay £2500. to TUI to cancel! So we tried to change to got to Turkey instead but TUI wants £1750 amendment fees. Loveholidays don’t seem to be bothered at all. Even though it is true what’s happening at that hotel etc
We told loveholidays there’s no way are we putting our lives in danger. Thanks

    Incidents can happen anywhere.

On the flip side if there has already been a problem and it has been taken care of correctly you are probably less likely to be at risk when you go.

Unless the hotel is removed by TUI and your booking cancelled then you'll just have to suck up the change or cancellation fees.

Tui is flights only as it was done through LoveHolidays. Yes incidents can happen anywhere I agree but you wouldn’t put your family’s lives in danger! Apparently the security guard told the females partner if he don’t let his mrs have rough sex with him then he would cut he’s head off! We are really not wanting to go as this is too extreme. I have 2 children (girls) and this is unacceptable.

It's now not clear whether you have booked a package holiday or not.

Even so, disinclination to travel when there is no government advice means the cost of changes remains with you.

Have you asked LoveHolidays  to change your hotel?

That would seem to be the most logical solution.

Has the security guard actually been charged with any offence or are you just reacting to some online comment?

One minute it's sexual assault and the next post it's just a threat.

I don’t think he’s been done as the police & hotel got them to sign so they stay quite what’s happened. There is a loveholidays booking reference number on the statement they did (on FB).

Hotel is called El Karma beach resort Egypt

I would agree with Ayr_Rage regarding your options.

Love Holidays differ from a tour operator like TUI or Jet2 Holidays in that separate travel components are bought in by them and combined to make a package holiday.  These components controlled by other parties and often non-refundable (in order to give you the customer the cheap price desired).

If you had booked with TUI you 'may' have convinced them to allow you to change destinations. Booking as you have with LH does leave options more limited.  LH will have purchased non-refundable flights (from TUI it seems). The amendment prices being quoted will likely be for new flights.

The hotel and transfers may, or may not have more flexibility on cancellation.  Changing destination I can't see being allowed.

I think your options will be limited to asking if you can change hotels in Egypt (but still using the same flights), travelling as booked - or accepting that this is your disinclination to travel and accept the full loss.

thank you everyone for your advice. It seems we have no choice but to go or we will have to pay £2500. Even thought LH know what’s going on at that same hotel🙈

Sadly, incidents like that can happen anywhere, and no tour operator is going to scrap all holidays on the basis of a couple of incidents.  The likelihood of it happening are small, but just keep your wits about you as you would as home.
