a little confused - switch or don't switch?
Hi All,
I got the MSE energy club email saying with the price cap ending soon I should urgently look at switching but the calculator then says every deal will cost me more?
I'm with Eon on the Next Fixed 12M V9 tariff, End date: 4 Apr 2025 so have no early repayment charges now.
Yearly usage elec 3,609 & gas 13,821
In Leicestershire if that matters much
Is the idea that I change anyway even though the based on when your deal ends saving says my best deal is going to cost £50 more a year?
If I don't switch is it best to just drop to whatever Eon put me on or change to the new tarif they are offering me (Next Fixed 16m v7, they claim that would be £66 cheaper but then why wouldn't it then show on the comparisons if that were true?
Sorry if it's a stupid question I've not really got the hang of swapping since it got complicated.
Cheers for any help,
worto.

If you fixed 10 months ago, it's likely that any fix taken now will indeed more expensive I'm afraid.
I fixed with Octopus last week at pretty much the same price as the current cap - in the light of the expectation of increases to the cap in April, that seems pretty reasonable to me. Remember also that if moving to Octopus you can ask family and friends for a referral code to use which will earn both you and them £50 energy credit which can be factored in as a saving.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

"Next Fixed 16m v7" shows for me on cheap energy club, so first step is to check what khw they used to compare.
Then you need to check what they are saying it will be cheaper than. If Cheap energy club are telling you it will cost you £50 more than you are paying now, but Eon are telling you it will be £66 cheaper than what you will pay if you go to their standard rate, then you can't compare those either.
Just look at what they are both charging you for the fixed term.1 -

Eon are saying it would be £66 cheaper to switch to Next Fixed 16m v7 or £30 cheaper to switch to Next Pledge tracker 12m v7
I think I'll just switch to the other Eon tariff, Next Fixed 16m v7 then as that will be very little effort and shouldn't cost me any more than now, hopefully less?0
