    When you say it's "a document...confirming I'll insure the property" what exactly does it say? The solicitors should be recommending that you insure the property (though even then it's a bit OTT to get you to sign something confirming you heard them!), but you don't have any obligation to them to do so.

    Though there can be covenants obliging you to insure for the benefit of e.g. your neighbours, so it's not necessarily simply up to you whether to insure.
