Difficulty opening savings accounts

Well, I'm beginning to go round the bend trying to open a savings account!

I had some money in a savings account where the interest rate came to an end. I followed the bank's suggestion to open another account of the same type but it wanted me to state how much I would pay in each month. I just want somewhere for some savings to sit but it wouldn't accept that so I had to abandon that option.

Next I looked on MSE for recommendations and first tried Trading 212. After reading and agreeing to about nine policies, the first of which alone had 53 pages, I got to the point of adding a linked account only to be told that my bank account details were invalid. Well, they work for me so I don't know why they're not recognised.

Then I tried Chip which gives 4.58% which includes a 1.08% bonus for new customers. There is a WELCOME code to enter when signing up. After downloading the app, scanning my passport and videoing myself to prove I'm human, it's only giving me 3.5%. There was nowhere to enter the code to get the bonus. So that account has been deleted.

I've just tried Chase and after about 20 attempts to get my ID photo accepted it told me I had opened a current account. I was trying to open a savings account. Another fail.

Can anyone recommend an easy access savings account with a decent interest rate which it is actually possible to open?

Chip is great as is Tandem. Not had any issues opening either of them
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

No option to enter the bonus code on Chip though.
  • There's a section in Chip. Go to Profile bottom right, then Promos & Referrals, then enter Promo Code.
That might be where you need to put it if not needed during sign up.

Thanks, but I deleted the account within 10 seconds of opening it and realising it was the lower interest rate. If I applied again it wouldn't be my first account with them so the bonus wouldn't apply. I'm afraid Chip is no good to me now.

Have you tried the Moneyfacts list, which allows you to filter only 'easy to open' accounts?  Monument and Buckinghamshire top that filtered list, the second from a PC.

You might try Hargreaves Lansdown Active Savings.  It acts as a front end to a number of different banks.  You do need to register and possibly provide ID initially.  But it does have the advantage that if in the future you want to change which bank you use you do not  need to repeat this ans can open the new account in seconds.  Currently has easy access at 4.51%

Monument have a minimum opening deposit of £25K , so maybe not do easy to open for most......

Come up with a best guess. If it's zero it's zero. For the accounts I've opened where I've been asked this question it's never ultimately mattered.

With Chase you should now be able to open a savings account.
By the sound of things you won't be paying in £1500 monthly to the current account to get the i% cash back on debit card spends.Unless you circulate the money.
It's quiet easy to transfer between the current account and savings
Transfers between don't count towards the £1500
