adding a baby to annual travel insurance

A couple already have annual travel insurance. They now have their first baby and wish to travel. Obviously a baby can't have travel insurance on their own as they don't travel alone. Can they be added to a policy that is already part way through the year? If not, then the other option would be for one of the adults to take a new policy (either annual or single) for themselves and the baby, but that would mean the adult is covered on two policies that could be difficult in the result of a claim or needing help while abroad.  What is the cheapest and correct way forward?

Read their policy document for any information about adding a baby to the policy.

Nothing to stop a baby having their own policy, though it will have to be bought on their behalf by an adult (for a range of obvious reasons).

First instance is to speak to their current insurers about adding them as a mid term adjustment. I would imagine most will be able to do so.

Having dual travel insurance could slow things down but wouldn't cause a major problem, travel insurance is used to dealing with dual insurance given many people's baggage/gadgets are also insured under their Home insurance etc.
