Shawbrook cannot verify their own accounts?

I have just opened a fixed rate bond with Shawbrook and tried to transfer money from my Easy Access account with them to the new bond. I can't because they say they cannot verify this account electronically, so I must sign up to open banking to allow access to this account so they can verify I am the account holder. Is this crazy? I could understand if it was an account with a different bank, but their own account?

I'm not familiar with Shawbrook but is this a COP check on a brand new account? It might be that you need to wait a day or two for the system to pick up that the accounts exists before you can initiate a transfer. Otherwise if it's checks on an internal transfer then I agree it's a bit odd.0

It's not a new account.0

I can't offer a reason or solution, but I've previously done exactly what you're trying to do.0

I suppose I could withdraw the money to my linked account, which is my main current account, then transfer it back into the new Shawbrook bond, but how daft is that.0

Have you called them or sent them a message to check what is going on?0

Yes. I’ll hope for a reply tomorrow.0

I left Shawbrook for a similar reason. I wanted to open a new Shawbrook savings account and transfer the balance of my existing Shawbrook account to it. I do this with Paragon and other banks every few months in order to take advantage of better interest rates; the new account is opened, the money transferred and the old account closed in one operation. This takes 30 seconds of my time and two minutes later the new account is showing online with the new balance. With Shawbrook I was being asked to withdraw to my current account, then transfer it back to the new one! - a two day process. When I informed them of this they thanked me for my feedback. Like it wasn't obvious that their system is absurd.1

Update. I did eventually have to withdraw to my linked current account and then pay it back in to Shawbrook.0
