To be honest I have never seen any electronic equipment in a filthier state internally than that one. The problem isn't down to a manufacturing fault and I'm not surprised Richer Sounds has refused and repair or replacement under its warranty.
Projectors arent computers though, they're not intended to be anywhere near carpets or the other more dusty parts of the home. Admit all mine have been Epson but the inwards vent all have had a filter behind the vent which the instructions say to remove and clean at a minimum of every 3 months, more if your home is dusty. I've also opened up my old ones, and though they were older than yours and they did have some dust inside it was nothing as bad as yours.
Assuming you are just over 5 years then RS' warranty would have been a 40% refund which is better than nothing but it's not like they'd have given you a brand new one.0 -

FYI this is the shelf it sits on 2 meters high - to the person that said moisture there is no way it could get wet.
to the person that mentioned dust filters - in some countries it says this model is provided with a dust filter but not in the uk which is very odd? Also with regard to the sliding scale exchange this may be part of the problem as I bought this on the original terms of the warranty which did not it have the sliding scale mentioned.1 -

It does not need to get "wet", just damp & any dust floating around in the room, which again gets stirred up by the fan sucking air to cool things, so dust will get sucked in & stick to any moist surface.Life in the slow lane3 -

They can only see the projector as it is now. They can probably download how many hours use it has had since purchase. However they have no proof of how clean or otherwise it was where it has been used or how often you vacuum cleaned it. Just persuading people on here to agree with you doesn't help.1 -

So if they’re saying it doesn’t cover mis-use (which very few warranties do) and the fault is due to mis-use by the customer, then the warranty can be void. If I remember correctly anyway, Richer Sounds work on the basis that if the item can’t be repaired during the warranty, then you’d get a partial refunding depending which year you’re in.Consumer Rights state that after 6 months, the onus is on the customer to prove that the fault was there at the time of purchase. You’d almost certainly need an independent reporting confirming a manufacturing fault. But even if that went in your favour, Richer Sounds are saying it can’t be repaired and doubtful a replacement could be offered as unlikely they still sell the exact same model. That would leave you with a partial refund to account for usage and it probably wouldn’t be much after 5 years. They should however be sending the item back to you, although if they’re saying it’s dangerous, they should be providing you with written confirmation of that so you can’t sue them later if anything goes wrong.

Just to close this they agreed 50% of value which I accepted.3
