Audible Credits

My Husband had an audible payment he didn’t know about running for ages which lead to 10 credits. I cancelled and Audible took all the credits even though he’s paid for them. Can they do this?

Surely he had the right to either credits or his money back? They say he can only have the credits with an active membership but that involved accumulating more credits!

Where do we stand or is the moment lost? It’s nearly £80!

  • My understanding is that you need to spend the credits on audio books, otherwise you lose the credits if you cancel. Can you ask them if you can restart the membership and retain the ten credits? If they say yes, then he'll need to use them on 10 audio books. Once he's done that, he can cancel and keep the audio books. I'd suggest he chooses 10 audio books and then cancels within the month before it rolls on to another month. Once cancelled, you still keep the audio books.

Well yes,  but it still seems like a con. He’s paid for credits so why should he lose them because he doesn’t have an active membership? If I cancel my gym membership I can still go until that months payment runs out etc. if he reinstates he has to pay for another month!

I think the real question is how did he not know he was paying for the service, not being used & why you cancelled it without checking if they will refund?

    Google AI answer

No, unused Audible credits are not refundable. They expire when your membership ends, unless you use them before then.
    Explanation
    • Audible credits are non-refundable, non-transferrable, and have no cash value.
    • You can use credits to buy audiobooks on the Audible app or website.
    • You can roll over some unused credits into the next billing period.
    • If you cancel your membership, you'll lose any remaining credits, except for gift or complimentary credits.
    • If you switch to the Audible Plus plan, you'll keep all the credits you've earned.
    • If you buy extra credits through the Google Play or App Store apps, they won't expire.
    • You can receive a monthly email summary of your credits that expire within 30 days.
You can return audiobooks purchased in error, and you'll get a credit back.

But in your example you're giving the gym a month's notice.  It sounds like you've cancelled the Audible subscription with immediate effect.  Had you spent a month using the credits and then cancelled, that would be analogous to your gym scenario.

I have Audible membership. I frequently also borrow e-audiobooks from my local library so I do, sometimes, accumulate Audible credits.

To give me time to use them up, I “pause” my membership. You can pause for up to 90 days every 12 months without losing access to your audiobooks and credits.  During the pause, you don’t pay or receive new credits.

To retain use of the unused 10 credits your husband should have paused his membership, prior to cancelling if he so wished. I am surprised this did not pop up as an option when you cancelled as in a “are you sure you would not prefer to pause?” when clicking the cancel button.
