Hi we are due to be moved from ESA to UC and I'm trying to find out weather they class Board money from adult children as income . They both dont work ,both are students and both receive PIP but no other benefits . I've tried to find out via google but cant find a definitive answer . thank you

No the board money isn't counted as income. There can be a non-dependent deduction if claiming rent that account for that (you get less rent paid to account for them making a payment towards it). But that deduction doesn't apply if the the non-dependent are under 21. Also if your children are over 21 and get daily living component of PIP then there are no deductions either.

It is not treated as income, it's treated as capital. If your total capital is less than £6,000 there will be no affect to your UC. I see from a previous thread that either yourself or your partner were claiming Mid rate care DLA, if this is still correct then there would be no non dependant deductions from your UC if you're claiming for help with the rent.kid_from_yesterday said:Hi we are due to be moved from ESA to UC and I'm trying to find out weather they class Board money from adult children as income . If when you apply you are under £6k no statements are needed. Just have an up to date total to hand for the application.
Later when your claim is active you might be selected for a random claim check. The standard request for this is the previous 4 months of statements.1 -
Thank you , im just double checking is this including being migrated from ESA to UC regarding not having to send bank statements straight away.KxMx said:If when you apply you are under £6k no statements are needed. Just have an up to date total to hand for the application.

Yes.
All applications to UC are counted as new applications, even when migrating from legacy benefits.1
